Ciloxan Ointment

How is this medication used?

Wash your hands before applying the ointment. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and apply a small amount (about 1/2 inch strip) of ointment to the affected eye(s) as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times a day. Close the eye and roll it in all directions to spread the medication. Do not blink. Keep the eye closed for 1 to 2 minutes to allow the medication to be absorbed.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include temporary blurred vision, eye discomfort, itching, redness, and possible allergic reactions. More serious side effects may include severe skin reactions, signs of a new infection (pain, swelling, oozing), or unusual changes in vision. Contact your doctor if you experience these severe side effects.

What are the potential interactions?

Before using Ciloxan ointment, tell your doctor about all other medications you are currently using, especially other eye medications. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly other antibiotics and medications that prolong the QT interval.
